Do you need a Thanksgiving Turkey?

Here’s a little whimsey to get us in the mood for Thanksgiving week…

We’ve lived in this house and neighborhood for 14 years and seen foxes, coyotes, bears, owls, hawks, and deer. I’ve never seen a turkey although our new neighbor reported on NextDoor recently that he had them in his yard. Well, the wait is over: there were at least 20 in our backyard a few days ago.

Turkeys in our yard. Happy Thanksgiving week!

You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you. (Nehemiah 9.6, NIV, emphasis mine)

  1. Are you going to catch one for June? She can wring its neck, boil it to get the feathers off, and then roast it. She’s such a great cook, I know she could manage it!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ BTW, my grandmother used to kill and dress a chicken and pop it in the oven to roast many Sunday mornings BEFORE leaving for church. We’re a pampered generation! And I for one am so thankful for all those modern conveniences!! Happy Thanksgiving to you two.

    1. Happy Thanksgiving to you all! Re pampered, yes we are. I prefer my turkeys cleaned and ready for cooking. I lived next door to a guy who kept chickens, and every now and then I’d watch him wring the neck and his wife take the feathers off, etc. I’ve seen it. Never done it! We used to have to teach our international students in Montgomery, AL, not to butcher the geese that might be wandering around their apartment complexes. They knew how to do it.
