I just set a new record for the cost to fill a cost tank. Back in 1989, we were driving a Suburban with a large gas tank across Canada, and I remember paying close to $50 for a tank of gas. I don’t think I’ve come close to that since, until a couple of weeks ago:
$61.93 for 14.5 gallons of gas at $4.269 per gallon. Whew! Just a few days before, I paid “only” $3.79/gallon to fill up the other car.
Let’s pause for a bit of perspective. All things considered, I’m still “wealthy,” right? I own two cars, and I can afford the $61.93.
Do you want more perspective? Just for fun, I looked up gas prices in other places:
The same 14.5 gallons of gas would have cost more than twice as much if I were in Paris. Just under double if I were in London, and just over 25% more if I were back in Canada. (I converted price/liter to price/gallon and figured in the exchange rates.)
I’m glad gasoline is available and that it’s still a relative bargain in the US.
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5.18, ESV)
