I was walking the dog early one day last week and saw water running down the street. My first thought was that it was snowmelt except it was a lot of water with no obvious source of that much snow (which wasn’t on the road). Then I discovered the source: a small spring bubbling up through the asphalt – a water main break!
First observation: do you know how blessed most of us are to have a water main that can break? I’ve been to capital cities that didn’t have running water. I was in Kalimpong, India, a lovely town built on the side of a hill (foothills of the Himalayas, and their water was trucked to various tanks, and homes were fed by a network of relatively small above-ground pipes. We drank bottled water and took short showers!
Back to our water main break. I called it in to our neighborhood water company around 7:15a. By 8:00a there were multiple trucks on the scene. They broke up the asphalt, dug down 6 – 7 feet to the pipes, fixed the leak, covered the hole back over, and our water was back on before 3:00p. Very impressive when you think about it.
I’ve written often: work is important: competent people actually showing up for work, doing the job right the first time, is a great blessing.
Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. (Colossians 3.23, 24, ESV)
Definitely important to put it on the gratitude list. And let’s remember flush toilets, too!! 😉
Re flush toilets, indeed!
