This is important!” the disciples didn’t understand:<\/p>\n\n\n\n They didn\u2019t get what he was saying. It was like he was speaking a foreign language and they couldn\u2019t make heads or tails of it. But they were embarrassed to ask him what he meant. (Luke 9.45, MSG)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n There are things Jesus wants to tell us. \u201cPut these words into your ears\u2026\u201d but we will have difficulty understanding especially if it\u2019s outside our framework. A suffering Messiah, despite Isaiah 53<\/a> which predicted him, was completely outside their experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This phenomenon may explain why the message of relational discipleship such as I shared day before yesterday<\/a> doesn\u2019t get through. It\u2019s just outside the paradigm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, \u201cFar be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you.\u201d But he turned and said to Peter, \u201cGet behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me.
