{"id":6311,"date":"2023-08-21T17:27:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-21T23:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/drbobewell.com\/?p=6311"},"modified":"2023-08-12T18:50:44","modified_gmt":"2023-08-13T00:50:44","slug":"why-did-jesus-come","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drbobewell.com\/?p=6311","title":{"rendered":"Why did Jesus come?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m reading John 18, which contains the proof text for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.focusonthefamily.com\/faith\/the-truth-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Truth Project<\/a>: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Then Pilate said to him, \u201cSo you are a king?\u201d Jesus answered, \u201cYou say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world\u2014to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.\u201d (John 18.37, ESV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Truth Project<\/strong> is certainly a good series, but I&#8217;m not sure I&#8217;d choose John 18.37 as THE single reason Jesus came. There are several verses that speak to Jesus&#8217; purpose:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. (Luke 19.10, ESV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.\u00a0For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. (John 3.16, 17, ESV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8230;The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. (1 John 3.8, ESV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why did he come?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To seek and save the lost<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To save the world<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To destroy the works of the devil<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All of which he did through the cross.\u00a0But BEFORE the cross, we have this provocative statement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do&#8230;I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. (John 17. 4, 6, ESV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What work did Jesus accomplish before the cross? Investing in men who would tell people about it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. (Acts 1.8, ESV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>For the law was given through Moses; <strong>grace AND truth<\/strong> came through Jesus Christ.
