First, in Exodus 2, he called himself, and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/drbobewell.com\/?p=5700\" target=\"_blank\">that didn&#8217;t go so well<\/a>. Then 40 years later, God calls him, and Moses wants no part of it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/drbobewell.com\/?p=5703\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Who am I?<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/drbobewell.com\/?p=5705\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Who are you?<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moses opens chapter 4 with another question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What if they don&#8217;t believe me?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Then Moses answered and said, \u201cWhat if they will not believe me and will not listen to my voice? For they may say, \u2018Yahweh has not appeared to you.\u2019\u201d And Yahweh said to him, \u201cWhat is this in your hand?\u201d And he said, \u201cA staff.\u201d Then He said, \u201cThrow it on the ground.\u201d So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent; and Moses fled from it. (Exodus 4.1 &#8211; 3, LSB)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">God gives him three signs: the serpent, the leprous hand, and water from the Nile turning into blood. (See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Exodus+4%3A1-9&amp;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Exodus 4.1 &#8211; 9<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moses then just makes a flat statement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>I can\u2019t talk.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Then Moses said to Yahweh, \u201cPlease, Lord, I have never been a man of words, neither recently nor in time past, nor since You have spoken to Your slave; for I am one with a hard mouth and a hard tongue.\u201d And Yahweh said to him, \u201cWho has made man\u2019s mouth? Or who makes him mute or deaf, or seeing or blind? Is it not I, Yahweh? So now, go, and I, even I, will be with your mouth and will instruct you what you shall speak.\u201d <\/em>(Exodus 4.10 &#8211; 12, LSB)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With this, God is getting a bit put out: &#8220;Who made man&#8217;s mouth!?&#8221; It&#8217;s back to &#8220;I will be with you.&#8221; (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Exodus+3%3A12&amp;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\">Exodus 3.12<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But Moses wails:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>But he said, \u201cOh, my Lord, please send someone else.\u201d (Exodus 4.13, ESV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wow. These Bible characters aren&#8217;t our best role models, are they? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, \u201cArise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it, for their evil has come up before me.\u201d But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the LORD.
