{"id":5605,"date":"2023-02-15T17:34:00","date_gmt":"2023-02-16T00:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/drbobewell.com\/?p=5605"},"modified":"2023-02-14T07:50:37","modified_gmt":"2023-02-14T14:50:37","slug":"what-i-want-is-not-all-that-matters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drbobewell.com\/?p=5605","title":{"rendered":"What I want is NOT all that matters"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I was really impacted by the line in the movie that I shared <a href=\"https:\/\/drbobewell.com\/?p=5586\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">last Friday<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>I&#8217;m afraid I&#8217;m too old-fashioned to believe that what I want is the only thing that matters.<\/em> &#8211; Lady Mary to a movie director in Downton Abbey: A New Era<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I shared it in a conversation with a pastor who is struggling with some parishioners who don&#8217;t seem to believe that some things are right and others are wrong. &#8220;We just want to follow Jesus!&#8221; But, as the pastor pointed out, following Jesus is about obedience:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>If you love me, you will keep my commandments&#8230;Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me.  (John 14.15&#8230;21, ESV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We could paraphrase Lady Mary slightly to make the quote stand alone:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>What I want is NOT all that matters.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Apostle Paul said there a lot of things that don&#8217;t matter but what does matter is&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8230;keeping the commandments of God. (1 Corinthians 7.19)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I shared the Lady Mary story the next day with someone involved in youth ministry, and he had an intriguing response.
