The real “Lord’s Prayer” is not the one we<\/em> pray, but the one he <\/em>prayed! Here are some highlights with a few comments:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do. (John 17.4, ESV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus referred to God\u2019s work several times in John. \u201cThe Father is working, and I am working\u201d in John 5. \u201cWe must work the works of him who sent me while it is day\u201d in John 9.\u00a0In this prayer, the work seems to be the men:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have manifested your name to the people whom you gave me out of the world. Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. (John 17.6, ESV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In any case, it\u2019s the Father\u2019s work. Not all were healed. Jesus chose 12 and invested in them and a few others.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. (John 17.15 – 17, ESV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s the famous \u201cin the world but not of the world.\u201d There needs to be a sanctification \/ a separation. But a separation of values<\/a> even while I am \u201cin the world.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are sent into the world. Not called to separate from the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. (John 17.18, ESV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
