As we think about JOY<\/a>, it’s hard to beat Isaac Watts’ hymn from 1719, Joy to the World<\/strong>, taken in part from Psalm 98:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 <\/sup>\u00a0Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises!
5 <\/sup>\u00a0Sing praises to the LORD with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody!
6 <\/sup>\u00a0With trumpets and the sound of the horn make a joyful noise before the King, the LORD! <\/em>
8 <\/sup>\u00a0Let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills sing for joy together
9 <\/sup>\u00a0before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with equity. (from Psalm 98, ESV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the 20th century, “Joy to the World” has been the most-published Christmas hymn in North America<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ironically many believe the song is less about Christmas than it is about the Second Advent<\/a>. But JOY is appropriate for both occasions! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joy to the world! The Lord is come
Let earth receive her King!
Let every heart prepare Him room
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven, and heaven and nature sing.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joy to the world! The Savior reigns
