This time, he rebukes them for wanting to rebuke someone else!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cMaster,\u201d said John, \u201cwe saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of\u00a0us.\u201d (Luke 9.49, NIV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the footnote, the translator of The Passion Translation attributes the disciples&#8217; behavior to jealousy:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Jealousy blinds our hearts. Nine disciples combined could not cast out a demon spirit, (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke+9%3A40&amp;version=TPT\">Luke 9.40<\/a>) and they were jealous of this one who did.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jesus simply tells them to cut it out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cDo not stop him,\u201d Jesus said, \u201cfor whoever is not against you is for you.\u201d (Luke 9.50, NIV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lesson is simple: recognize and applaud others\u2019 effectiveness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>They don&#8217;t get in each other&#8217;s way. Each one knows his job and does it. (Joel 2.8, MSG<\/em>, from <a href=\"https:\/\/drbobewell.com\/?p=474\">Lessons from Locusts<\/a> that I&#8217;ve written about before)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. (1 Corinthians 12.4 \u2013 6, ESV)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>So tend to your knitting. You\u2019ve got your hands full just taking care of your own life before God.
